Overview of the Research Institute

The Institute of deep earth science and green energy of Shenzhen University was established in February 2018, with Academician Xie Heping as its president. Based on the basic research of deep Geosciences and the innovative exploration of low-carbon green energy system construction, the research fields include: deep in-situ rock mechanics, three-dimensional photoelasticity and photoplastic mechanics theory and technology, underground space development and self recycling ecosystem, underground space energy storage and intelligent transformation, deep ground solid resources fluidized mining, deep geo medicine, medium and low-temperature geothermal power generation, and low-temperature geothermal power generation Carbon technology and CO2 mineralization utilization, seawater energy utilization and so on.

Academician Xie Heping is the team leader of the Institute of deep earth science and green energy of Shenzhen University. The Institute is committed to the basic research of deep earth science, low-carbon green energy (shale gas, geothermal energy and seawater energy development) and innovative research and exploration in the fields of deep earth and rock mechanics. In recent years, academician Xie Heping, the leader of the research team, has presided over more than 20 national key R & D projects, national 973 projects, NSFC innovation group projects, national major scientific research instrument development projects, NSFC international cooperation projects, and international cooperation projects of the Ministry of science and technology. He has won the National Natural Science Award, the national science and Technology Progress Award and other national disciplines 4 technical awards. In 2018, it successfully applied for the "Shenzhen Clean Energy Research Institute", one of the top ten basic research platforms in Shenzhen, and was successfully approved as the Key Laboratory of "deep Geoscience and geothermal energy development and utilization" in 2019.

The Institute has more than 20 researchers (including part-time), including 1 academician, 9 part-time academicians, and 11 national talent project candidates. Professor Dai Hongjie, academician of the academy and American Academy of Sciences, Professor Derek Elsworth of Penn State University, Professor Yu Haisui, academician of Royal Academy of engineering, Professor Zhao Jian of Monash University of Australia, Professor Hou zhengmeng of claustal University of technology in Germany, Simon of Cambridge University of England Professor Redfern and other top international experts have established long-term cooperative relations. The Institute has independently developed and purchased a series of advanced experimental equipment, and will build a world leading research platform and scientific center. Research interests include deep earth science and in-situ rock mechanics, engineering disturbed rock dynamics, three-dimensional photoelasticity and photoplastic mechanics theory and technology, thermoelectric materials research and development and low-temperature geothermal power generation theory and technology, underground space development and utilization, deep solid resources fluidized mining, low-carbon technology and CO2 mineralization utilization, principle and technology of seawater hydrogen production, deep earth and lunar based fidelity Core exploration, etc.
